How much does hardwood flooring costs?

Hardwood flooring is an an investment for a lifetime. It is one of the most durable and long-lasting options for homeowners. There are many choices when it comes to hardwood flooring materials and styles — engineered or solid wood, oak or cherry and so on — so that you get the floor that perfectly matches your home.

Installing hardwood flooring costs between $250 (low end) and $1000 (high end) but there are many factors that have major impact on the final costs. Some of those factors include kind of flooring, its quality or grade and how complex the installation will be. Average range is between $1500 and $4500. But what exactly decides on the price?

Let’s take a closer look at apects of hardwood flooring installation

Hardwood flooring comes in two types: solid or engineered hardwood. Solid wood flooring can be slightly cheaper than enginereed – it costs between $3,500 and $8,000, whereas engineered hardwood costs between $5,000 and $7,500. Solid wood can be sanded and refinished many times, as it’s a solid piece of wood and is all natural. Engineered hardwood cannot, as it’s manufactured, but it’s more stable and resistant to humidity and temeratures.

Next thing: quality and grading. Of course, the better the quality is (the more layers the wood has, therefore will last longer), the more expensive it gets. Same with grading – it refers to how the floor looks, and it determines the wood’s strength and durability. And last but definitely not least factor: size or complexity of the job. Flooring contractors always add labor to the final price of installation, and it varies from $500 to $3,000. Understandably, the more difficult the installation is, or the bigger the room is, the more expensive the whole costs will be. Some contractors determine the final cost by sqare foot, others will charge by the hour. Ask beforehand to avoid paying more than expected.
