Hardwoodfloors come in countless colors, styles and types to help you transform your home. If you’re not sure what color of wood to choose, here are some tips on what to take into consideration when choosing the right hardwood flooring.

Pros and cons of the dark colors

Exotic, dark hardwood floors are a classic and like the company of precious materials and high gloss. They look great on large surfaces accompanied by glass, metal or stone. In this type of interior, the best decoration is the smoothness of surfaces of the materials themselves. We suggest choosing furniture with geometric, simple forms, veneer claddings corresponding to the color and grain of the floor, although not necessarily of the same type of wood. Make sure that the interior isn’t overwhelmed with too many ornaments. You may choose one extravagant piece that will add character and statement to the interior.

As for the colors, a dark floor is tolerant. The risky contrast is only a combination of walls in a pure, unbroken whiteness with a very dark hue of a wooden floor. This contrast may be tiring, which is why, again, the design of the apartment should be very well thought out. It is safer to choose light beige and off-white wall colors to compliment dark floors. It is also worth trying a strong, intense color on one or two walls.

Pros and cons of light colors

Bright floors make the interior look bigger visually. A lighter shade of hardwood floors doesn’t impose itself and gives an impression of naturalness and simplicity. They will look good with about any architectural style.

For a more contemporary interior, simple furniture and metal accents will do, for a more rustic, farmhouse style – some wicker and patinated wood. If you prefer a Scandinavian design, you can add some colorful accents, grays and minimalist décor items.

With a bright hardwood floor, your furniture can be white, light or dark. White and light hues will usually need a supplement of vivid color on curtains, bedspreads or pillows, while dark ones cannot be massive, because they will optically “collapse” the floor. Dark furniture on a light floor should be minimalist with clean, simple lines. In summary: dark hardwood floors are more suited to more spacious interiors. They will help you to get calm and soothing atmosphere in your house and bring a bit of luxury and elegance. Light hardwood flooring on the other hand will allow for a much greater, than in the case of dark floors, freedom in choosing the color of furniture and accessories..
